Useful Map for Foreign Residents for Ota ward, Tokyo
The “Useful Map for Foreign Residents” provides information for foreign nationals working or residing in Japan, such as government offices, administrative scriveners who support residence applications, specified skill registration support organizations, medical institutions, etc.

We mainly list institutions that are essential and useful for working and living in Japan.

Number of foreign residents by municipality

Number of foreign residents by municipalityThe number of foreign residents by municipality is now displayed on the page.

For example, take Ota Ward, Tokyo, as shown on the left.

The total population is around 750,000, and the number of foreign residents around 27,000.

The ratio of foreign residents to the total population is 3.65%, or about 4 out of 100 people are foreigners.

Changes from the previous year

Changes from the previous yearThe number of foreign nationals is increasing nationwide due to changes in immigration policy (increasing the number of foreign nationals accepted based on status of residence: specific skills, etc.) because of the declining birthrate and aging population.

In order to visualize this, we have created a graph showing a comparison from the previous year.

For example, the percentage of foreign residents in Ota Ward increased by 0.36 points from 3.3% to 3.66% in just one year.

Summary

The currently supported local governments are cities, special wards, and cities throughout Japan (Towns and villages will be added in the future), and the language is Japanese only.

The total population above is obtained from census data every five years, (the total population is fixed in both years), so please use the percentage of foreign residents as a guideline only.

The increasing trend of foreign residents will continue. I think this will help Japanese nationals to realize more of the urgent issue of coexistence with foreigners.
