{"id":1338,"date":"2025-08-28T07:18:32","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T22:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.japan-workers.com\/?p=1338"},"modified":"2025-08-28T07:18:32","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T22:18:32","slug":"why-cant-you-apply-for-residence-online-on-the-last-day-of-your-period-of-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.japan-workers.com\/?p=1338","title":{"rendered":"Why can&#8217;t you apply for residence online on the last day of your period of stay?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moj.go.jp\/isa\/applications\/online\/10_00115.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">The Immigration Services Agency&#8217;s website<\/a> states the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding residence applications on the last day of your residence period (the day your period of stay expires)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications cannot be made through the online residence application system on the last day of the period of stay (the day the period of stay expires).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please apply at your nearest regional immigration office.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No particular reason is given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just recently, when I applied online for permission to change status of residence on the day before the expiration date, I finally understood the reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After submitting any residence application online, including applications for permission to change residence status, the following email will be sent from the Online Residence Application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immediately after applying: You will receive an email with the subject &#8220;Notice that your application has been accepted through the Online Residence Application System.&#8221; The email will include your temporary acceptance number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around 2:10 AM on the day after you applied: You will receive an email with the subject &#8220;Notice of Application Reception Number &#8211; Online Residence Application System.&#8221; The &#8220;reception number&#8221; listed in the email is an important number that you will need to use when making inquiries about your application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assuming you are able to apply online on the last day of your residence period, your application will not be &#8220;officially&#8221; accepted between midnight and 2:10 AM the day after you applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think this is the reason why you cannot apply for residence online on the last day of your visa period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you apply at the counter and your application is accepted, you will be given a reception number at that point, so you should apply at the counter on the final day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that the day before the last day of your residence period can be a weekend or public holiday.
